What is HTML 5? In a nutshell it will be the next set of standards for accessing web content. With a little bit of luck once it’s been implemented you will no longer have to install lots of plugins(e.g. Flash, Silverlight) just to get a variety of websites to work.

There should be some great features to really excite developers and end users alike. Many large corporations are throwing their weight behind the project and so it is a question of when not if this becomes the defacto standard for web development.

At this time the biggest issue is browser support for HTML5. Support for the new features HTML 5 promises varies, but as time goes by support will increase. At the time of writing I am working on a completely HTML 5 development site that will incorporate many new features not currently seen on my main site.
